Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics is a sports video game developed by Existence Software and based upon the animated series Laff-A-Lympics, which aired from 1977 to 1978 as part of the Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics programming block. As with the television series it is based on, Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics crosses over characters from a multitude of different franchises created by Hanna-Barbera Productions as they participate in a variety of sporting competitions. Unlike the original show however, which featured sporting events that were, for the most part, grounded in reality, the Laff-A-Lympics video game instead reimagines all sporting events in order to take advantage of the cartoon nature of the original series involved.
The game features full voice acting for every character. While original recordings are reused for some characters, a majority of the cast receive new portrays provided by their current voice actors. Many characters' voice actors return from the television series Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, Wacky Races, Jellystone!, and Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs. Snagglepuss and Mildew Wolf, who originally debuted in The Quick Draw McGraw Show and Cattanooga Cats respectively, serve as the announcers for the competitions and narrate the games.

Championship Mode
Events
The game features 20 sporting competitions and 40 minigames for a total of 60 unique events. Every sporting competition includes three different settings and two gameplay variations, creating a total of 160 events in all. Each gameplay variant changes the way the event must be tackled, often changing objectives or adding certain gimmicks, with the default being a "basic" version more akin to the sport's real-life counterpart. Each minigame has only one variant and last for only a few seconds each; these can be compared to the minigames of the Mario Party series.

Playable Characters
The game features 56 playable characters. Fifty-two of these characters are split across three teams of twelve contestants: the Scooby Doobies (primarily featuring characters from mystery-based shows), the Yogi Yahooeys (primarily featuring anthropomorphic animals associated with Yogi Bear), the Really Rottens (made up primarily of villainous characters), and a new team named the "Birdman Galaxies" (headed up by Birdman and consisting primarily of characters from superhero or action-based series); these characters act as the default characters. An additional four characters can be unlocked through Championship Mode.
Not all characters from the original Laff-A-Lympics series return for the video game. Notably the Really Rottens team, which previously consisted almost-entirely of original characters created for Laff-A-Lympics, has been mostly replaced with actual villainous characters from Hanna-Barbera properties. Some other characters, such as Grape Ape and Speed Buggy, do not return as they would destroy the gameplay balance or could not feasibly participate in all events. Other characters do reappear but as members of different teams; the most notable example of this is Mumbly, who previously served as the captain of the Really Rottens but is now portrayed in a more-heroic light.

The following characters do not return from the original cast of the Laff-A-Lympics: Scooby-Dum from The Scooby-Doo Show; Speed Buggy and Tinker from Speed Buggy; Yakky Doodle from The Yogi Bear Show; Pixie, Dixie, and Hokey Wolf from The Huckleberry Hound Show; Grape Ape from The Grape Ape Show; Dinky Dalton, Dirty Dalton, and Dastardly Dalton from The Quick Draw McGraw Show; and the original characters Dread Baron, Mr. Creepley, Mrs. Creepley, Junior Creepley, Orful Octopus, Daisy Mayhem, and Sooey. Dread Baron has been replaced by Dick Dastardly, who couldn't appear in the original series due to Hanna-Barbera only having partial rights to the Wacky Races characters at the time, and Orful Octopus has been replaced by Squiddly Diddly, on whom the former was based.

Trivia
- Despite Scooby-Doo's name being present in the title of the game, the Scooby-Doo! franchise only has three playable characters. The Quick Draw McGraw Show has the most with five, followed by Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, Johnny Quest, and Wacky Races with four. Outside of the Laff-A-Lympics series however, Scooby-Doo has crossed over with Blue Falcon, Dynomutt, Mudsy, Jabberjaw, Captain Caveman, Dee Dee Sykes, Dick Dastardly, Muttley, Birdman, Yogi Bear, and Boo Boo Bear, as well as characters from Johnny Quest, in films and television shows before.
- The following characters originally planned to be playable characters during development but did not get added into the final roster: Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!); Johnny Bravo (Johnny Bravo); Morocco Mole and Winnie (The Atom Ant/Secret Squirrel Show); Ted and Goober (Goober and the Ghost Chasers); Woofer and Wimper (Clue Club); Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har (Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har); and Zandor (The Herculoids).
- Characters from The Smurfs and Jana of the Jungle were also considered for the roster but ultimately went unused due to these franchises not currently being owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment.
